Delete the account in the app
This is the primary method. You do not need to buy anything, and you do not need to contact us first.
- Open the Voice For Locals shopper app and sign in.
- Open your profile.
- Choose Delete Account.
- Read what will be deleted, then confirm.
- Enter the one-time code sent to your phone number or email.
When the code is accepted, the account is deleted and you are signed out. The same steps are available on Android and on iPhone. Apple and Google do not delete the account for us. Deleting the app from your phone does not delete the account.
If you cannot open the app
Email support@voiceforlocals.co.uk from the email on the account, or tell us the mobile number on the account, with the subject “Delete my shopper account”. We will send a confirmation code to that phone number or email before we delete it. We will not delete an account on a request we cannot match to the account holder.
We complete a verified request within 30 days. In most cases it is completed as soon as the code is accepted.
What we delete
- Your profile: name, phone, email, photo, gender, postcode, country, audience profile, and sign-in links for Google or Apple held by us.
- Ethnicity, housing status, and support-centre verification stored for that profile.
- Reward preferences, favourites, campaign answers, and notification tokens.
- Location updates sent by the app.
- The public copy of your reviews, which are removed from the app.
What we keep, and why
We keep only what we still need:
- Payments and related loyalty entries for up to six years, for tax, accounting, chargebacks, and fraud checks. Card numbers are not stored by us. They are handled by Stripe.
- A limited record of a review or message if it is part of a report, dispute, or legal claim, until that matter ends.
- An anonymised record that a transaction happened, where a local business needs it for its own accounts and the record no longer identifies you.
We do not keep your profile for marketing after deletion. Referral codes on a deleted account stop working. Unused points are cancelled and are not paid out in cash.
Other places your information may remain
- The local business you paid or reviewed may keep its own copy of that transaction under its privacy notice. Ask the business if you want that copy deleted.
- Stripe, Google, or Apple may keep information they collected as an independent controller, such as a payment or a store download. Use their own privacy tools for those records.
- Your phone may keep notifications or photos you saved. Removing the app clears the app’s local sign-in data.
