1. Introduction

These Terms of Use ("Terms of Use") set out the rules governing your conduct when using the Voice For Locals Shoppers mobile application (the "App") and related services provided by Voice For Locals ("Voice For Locals", "VFL", "we", "our", or "us").

These Terms of Use supplement our Terms and Conditions, which govern the contractual relationship between you and Voice For Locals, and our Privacy Policy.

By using the App, you agree to comply with these Terms of Use. Breach may result in suspension or termination of your account.

3. Acceptable Use

You agree to use the App lawfully, honestly, and in a manner consistent with its intended purpose as a community platform for discovering local businesses, earning loyalty rewards, and engaging with your local area.

You must not use the App in any way that:

  • Violates applicable laws or regulations
  • Infringes the rights of others
  • Harms, threatens, or harasses any person
  • Damages the reputation or operation of Voice For Locals or participating businesses
  • Interferes with the security or integrity of the platform

4. Account and Authentication Rules

4.1 One Account Per Person

You must not create multiple accounts to obtain duplicate rewards, referral bonuses, or other benefits. Shared household use of a single account is permitted only where expressly allowed by programme rules.

4.2 Accurate Information

You must not provide false, misleading, or impersonated identity information. This includes false homelessness verification, fabricated postcodes, or misrepresented audience profiles.

4.3 Credential Security

You must not share your login credentials, OTP codes, or device access with others in a manner that enables unauthorised account use or reward fraud.

5. Reviews and Ratings

5.1 Honest Reviews

Reviews and ratings must reflect your genuine personal experience with the relevant business. You must not:

  • Post reviews for businesses you have not visited or transacted with
  • Submit false, defamatory, or malicious reviews
  • Post reviews on behalf of others without disclosure
  • Accept payment or incentives to post biased reviews (other than standard loyalty programme rewards offered equally to all participants)

5.2 Review Content Standards

Reviews must not contain:

  • Hate speech, discriminatory language, or harassment
  • Personal information about business staff or other customers (beyond what is necessary and appropriate)
  • Obscene, threatening, or unlawful content
  • Spam, advertising, or promotional material unrelated to your experience

5.3 Moderation

We may remove, hide, or decline to publish reviews that breach these Terms of Use. Businesses may respond to reviews through the platform where that feature is available. We do not guarantee that all reviews will remain published indefinitely.

6. Referrals

6.1 Genuine Referrals

Referral codes and links must be shared honestly. You must not:

  • Create fake accounts to claim referral rewards
  • Use automated tools or bots to generate referrals
  • Misrepresent the App or referral benefits to prospective users
  • Refer yourself using alternate identities or contact details

6.2 Programme Integrity

We may withhold or revoke referral rewards where we determine that referrals were obtained through fraud, manipulation, or breach of these Terms of Use.

7. Payments and Financial Conduct

7.1 No Payment Fraud

You must not:

  • Use stolen, unauthorised, or fraudulent payment methods
  • Initiate chargebacks in bad faith
  • Manipulate transaction records or local spend calculations
  • Collude with businesses to generate artificial transactions for loyalty benefits

7.2 Platform Payments Only

Payments for participating business goods or services should be made through the App's designated payment flow where that is the intended method. Circumventing platform payment flows to exploit loyalty benefits may constitute a breach.

8. QR Codes and Camera Use

8.1 Acceptable QR Use

The App uses your device camera to scan QR codes for reward collection and redemption. You may use the camera feature only for:

  • Scanning legitimate Voice For Locals QR codes at participating business premises
  • Other camera functions expressly provided within the App

8.2 Prohibited QR Conduct

You must not:

  • Photograph, screenshot, share, or reproduce QR codes to enable unauthorised redemption
  • Use third-party tools to decode or forge QR codes
  • Redeem the same reward multiple times through manipulation
  • Scan QR codes on behalf of others in a commercial or fraudulent capacity

9. Location and Live Mode

9.1 Permitted Use

Live Mode and location features must be used for genuine shop discovery and platform participation. You must not:

  • Spoof, falsify, or manipulate GPS location data
  • Enable Live Mode primarily to distort business heatmap data
  • Use location features to stalk, track, or harass others

9.2 Permission Respect

You must respect device-level location and notification permissions. Attempting to bypass permission controls through unauthorised technical means is prohibited.

10. Campaigns, Surveys, and Loyalty Programmes

10.1 Good Faith Participation

When participating in campaigns, surveys, or loyalty activities, you must respond honestly and in accordance with stated programme rules.

10.2 No Exploitation

You must not exploit technical vulnerabilities, programme loopholes, or timing errors to obtain unearned points, rewards, or tier benefits. Report suspected errors to support@voiceforlocals.co.uk rather than exploiting them.

11. User Content

11.1 What Constitutes User Content

"User content" includes reviews, ratings, survey responses, profile photographs, feedback, and any other material you submit through the App.

11.2 Your Responsibility

You are solely responsible for user content you submit. You represent that you have the right to submit such content and that it does not violate any third-party rights or applicable law.

11.3 Licence to Voice For Locals

By submitting user content, you grant Voice For Locals a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable licence to use, reproduce, display, distribute, and adapt your user content for the purpose of operating, promoting, and improving the platform. This includes displaying reviews on business profiles and using aggregated survey data for analytics.

This licence continues for content that remains published after account deletion (e.g. anonymised reviews) to the extent necessary for platform operation.

11.4 Withdrawal

You may delete or edit certain user content through the App where functionality is available. Deletion may not remove copies already distributed or cached in accordance with our Privacy Policy and legal retention requirements.

12. Prohibited Activities

You must not engage in any of the following:

Commercial misuseUsing the App for unauthorised commercial purposes, reselling rewards, or operating a rewards brokerage
Data misuseCollecting other users' information without consent; exporting platform data except as permitted

This list is not exhaustive. We may take action against conduct that harms the platform or its community even if not specifically listed.

13. Intellectual Property

13.1 VFL Ownership

The App, Voice For Locals branding, logos, software, documentation, and platform content (excluding user content) are owned by or licensed to Voice For Locals and protected by intellectual property laws.

13.2 Restrictions

You must not:

  • Copy, modify, or distribute App software or content without permission
  • Use Voice For Locals trademarks without written consent
  • Remove copyright or proprietary notices
  • Frame or mirror any part of the platform

13.3 Feedback

If you provide suggestions or feedback about the App, we may use it without obligation or compensation to you.

14. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with third-party services including Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, Stripe, and postcodes.io. Your use of those services is subject to their respective terms and policies. Voice For Locals is not responsible for third-party service conduct except as required by law.

Links to business websites or external content are provided for convenience. We do not endorse or control third-party sites.

15. Suspension and Termination

15.1 Our Rights

We may, at our discretion and without prior notice where necessary:

  • Issue warnings regarding conduct
  • Restrict access to specific features
  • Suspend or terminate your account
  • Remove user content
  • Report unlawful activity to authorities

Grounds include breach of these Terms of Use, our Terms and Conditions, suspected fraud, or conduct harmful to the platform community.

15.2 Effect of Termination

Upon termination for breach:

  • Your right to use the App ceases immediately
  • Unredeemed loyalty points and rewards may be forfeited
  • We may retain records as described in our Privacy Policy

You may delete your account voluntarily in accordance with our Terms and Conditions.

16. Reporting Violations

If you become aware of conduct that violates these Terms of Use, report it to support@voiceforlocals.co.uk with relevant details. We will review reports and take appropriate action, though we are not obliged to disclose outcomes to reporters.

17. Changes to These Terms of Use

We may update these Terms of Use to reflect changes in the App, legal requirements, or community standards. The latest version will be available in the App and on our website. Material changes will be communicated via the App or email where appropriate.

Continued use after the effective date of updated Terms of Use constitutes acceptance.

18. Governing Law

These Terms of Use are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Disputes arising from or relating to these Terms of Use are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, without prejudice to mandatory consumer rights.
